Derivatives of Entropy Rate in Special Families of Hidden Markov Chains

Consider a hidden Markov chain obtained as the observation process of an ordinary Markov chain corrupted by noise. Zuk, et. al. [13], [14] showed how, in principle, one can explicitly compute the derivatives of the entropy rate of at extreme values of the noise. Namely, they showed that the derivatives of standard upper approximations to the entropy rate actually stabilize at an explicit finite time. We generalize this result to a natural class of hidden Markov chains called ``Black Holes.'' We also discuss in depth special cases of binary Markov chains observed in binary symmetric noise, and give an abstract formula for the first derivative in terms of a measure on the simplex due to Blackwell.Comment: The relaxed condtions for entropy rate and examples are taken out (to be part of another paper). En este artículo se analiza el papel que han jugado hasta el momento los expedientes de la censura teatral del Archivo General de la Administración como fuente para el estudio del teatro español del franquismo y se ofrece una bibliografía con los trabajos publicados a partir de esta documentación. This article examines the role played so far by the files of theatrical censorship preserved in the General Archive of the Administration as a source for the study of the Spanish theatre during Franco´s regime. Forensic characterization of 15 autosomal STRs in four populations from Xinjiang, China, and genetic relationships with neighboring populations

The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China (XUARC) harbors 47 ethnic groups including the Manchu (MCH: 0.11%), Mongols (MGL: 0.81%), Kyrgyz (KGZ: 0.86%) and Uzbek (UZK: 0.066%). To establish DNA databases for these populations, allele frequency distributions for 15 autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci were determined using the AmpFlSTR Identifiler PCR amplification kit. There was no evidence of departures from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) in any of the four populations and minimal departure from linkage equilibrium (LE) for a very small number of pairwise combinations of loci. The probabilities of identity for the different populations ranged from 1 in 1.51 × 1017 (MCH) to 1 in 9.94 × 1018 (MGL), the combined powers of discrimination ranged from 0.99999999999999999824 (UZK) to 0.9999999999999999848 (MCH) and the combined probabilities of paternal exclusion ranged from 0.9999979323 (UZK) to 0.9999994839 (MCH). Genetic distances, a phylogenetic tree and principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that the MCH, KGZ and UZK are genetically closer to the Han population of Liaoning and the Mongol population of Mongolia while the MGL are closer to Han, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Hong Kong Han and Russians living in China

That Was Poe, The Great American Hack: Retracing Echoes of Poe’s Gothic Tales in Stephen King’s The Shining

Burton Pollin argues that, despite Edgar Allan Poe‟s evident legacy in Stephen King‟s fiction, Poe‟s influence on the writings of this author from Maine has often been overlooked and even ignored by Poe scholars. Pollin suggests that King‟s most acclaimed horror novel The Shining (1977) was mostly inspired by Poe‟s gothic tales “The Masque of the Red Death” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” Taking Pollin‟s premise as a point of departure, this article aims to retrace examples of transtextuality – to use Gérard Genette‟s term − between King‟s novel The Shining and some of Poe‟s gothic tales, thus following Pollin‟s initial proposal, but with the view to analyse different passages from King‟s novel in comparison with other Poe‟s tales that have been hardly mentioned in relation to The Shining.Burton Pollin defiende que, pese al evidente legado que Edgar Allan Poe atesora en la ficción de Stephen King, la influencia que Poe ha ejercido en las obras del escritor de Maine a menudo ha sido menospreciada o includo ignorada por parte de los estudiosos de la obra de Poe. The documentary value of the journalist as an author

En el ámbito de la Documentación, un elemento informativo que se considera básico para gestionar la información es la figura del autor. No obstante, y siendo así, son pocos los estudios de Documentación Periodística que se han centrado en el periodista como autor y máximo responsable de la información que leemos en la prensa. En este artículo intentaremos demostrar la importancia documental y periodística que tiene el que el periodista firme sus noticias. Para apoyar nuestros argumentos tomamos como referencia los datos obtenidos del estudio de dos diarios locales de Sevilla: El Correo de Andalucía y Diario de Sevilla.In the field of Information Science, an informative element that is considered to be essential to manage information is the figure of the author. Nevertheless, only a few studies in Journalistic Information Science have focused on the journalist as an author and the main responsible part for the information we read in press. In this article we will try to prove the documentary and journalistic importance of the journalist ´s signature in the news. Fibrocartílago meniscal como biomaterial de sustitución en los defectos osteocondrales: injertos heterólogos, en fresco y conservados: metodología de conservación de injertos meniscales

Los autores realizan un estudio experimental en conejos, con el objeto de valorar las posibilidades reales de utilización de fibrocartílago meniscal en la reparación de defectos osteocondrales en zona de carga, empleando injertos heterólogos tanto frescos como congelados procedentes de perros. Han sido estudiados histológicamente 76 animales con periodos de evolución comprendidos entre un a semana y 18 meses, comparándose los resultados obtenidos. Los injertos heterólogos en fresco (44 animales), cuando no son rechazados, parecen ser capaces de restaurar un a superficie articular funcional, no modificándose la estructura fibrilar y manteniendo su celularidad, consiguiendo un anclaje perfecto al lecho óseo semejante al obtenido con los injertos autólogos y homólogos. No modifica el cartílago articular vecino. El índice de rechazos es elevado, (18 %). Los injertos heterólogos han sido conservados mediante congelación, aplicando técnicas utilizadas par a el cartílago articular. Se han estudiado 32 animales. Autoría, autoridad y verdad. Apuntes para una nueva lectura 'en frío' de la polémica Menchú-Stoll

Este artículo versa sobre las condiciones que afectan la recepción de los textos que han sido ubicados bajo la rúbrica genérica testimonio en relación a la construcción de su autoría y de su condición de “verdad”. El análisis se concreta a partir de los procesos de interpretación que afectan un caso polémico, el de la recepción del testimonio mediado por Elizabeth Burgos,Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia (1983) una vez su referencialidad fue puesta en cuestión por el antropólogo David Stoll en el libro Rigoberta Menchú and the Story of All Poor Guatemalans (1999). Se parte de la hipótesis que toda posición de  autor depende de elementos pragmáticos  condicionados tanto por la filiación genérica o disciplinaria del texto en cuestión como por el lugar––social, político, simbólico–– que ocupa quien firma la obra en un determinado entorno. The testimonio is an interesting genre where to show how the “author” function depends on pragmatic factors conditioned by the generic ordisciplinary affiliation of the text, as well as by the social, political or symbolical place occupied by the person(s) who sign(s) the book.
